If the system's frozen but still functional enough to produce an error dialogue, surely it's possible to design Windows to do a properĬontrolled restart when this happens? If the only other step is waiting for ages or risking damage to the computer by using the off button, losing unsaved work is the last thing anyone's going to worry about. I'm still working on possible solutions but I'm posting in the probably vain hope that someone from Microsoft reads this. I've found plenty of otherĭiscussions where people have had to do the same. It doesn't happen every time and I confess I haven't had the patience to wait it out - so far I've taken the very undesirable step of having to do a shutdown with the off button. Ctrl/Alt/Del doesn't activate Task Managerīut it does bring up the box that the OP mentions. Desktop appears but if I click on anything I just get the stupid rotating blue circle. This has just started happening to me on Windows 8.1, when I wake the computer after it's been in sleep mode for a few hours. I wonder if legal action could be taken against Microsoft if they are indeed crippling windows 7 and 8 machines to force them into the Disgrace of the dreaded PC destroying Windows 10 downgrade! Led to reverting back to windows 7 the same day as the Windows 10 downgrade due to everything not made exclusively for Windows 10 either insta-crashing or malfunctioning. I would not be surprised if all who were (Like me) stupid enough to reserv that magical free upgrade that turned out to me an unmitigated disaster that I am wondering if a forced update is doing this to try to strongarm me into going to Windows 10. The only thing left to try is (When I get the cash) to purchase an 8Tb HDD make a new boot partition on it and do a fresh install of win 7 as well as back up everything on that HDD (Main Partiiton, Boot Partition) in case the primary HDD is going the way I am not going through another day of reinstalling windows followed by a solid week of reinstalling apps and games again! System Restore is also a no-go as over 10 restore points inexplicably disappeared so I have no points to restore to and as I said earlierĬlean reinstall don't work. I clean the rig with Ccleaner and no dice. I run full scans of Malwarebytes Premium and Baidu AV in safe mode and they don't detect anything. I could wait until I die of old age and none of the programs will start responding again. The Program has stopped responding, if you wait the program may respond again sometimes it hangs so bad the whole PC freezes and clicking on the mouse or pressing any key results in frequent beeping from the PC before: I am getting this issue with EVERY app I use.
